(OLNEY)  As the storm system moves out of Illinois today our patchy drizzle along the Route 50 corridor will end with a dry sky expected for the rest of this afternoon – we’ll see a slight warm up as we move thru tomorrow and Wednesday before another front moves thru with rain chances Wednesday night & Thursday – then maybe some snow & rain mixed Friday before we dry out on Saturday & Sunday – listen for updates.


(OLNEY)  The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook calling for widespread dense fog this morning and again overnight tonight thru tomorrow morning – the advisory is in effect for Richland, Jasper, and all surrounding counties – motorists are advised to allow some extra time for travel and to make sure those headlights are on during daylight hours – then after a warm up by midweek, the Outlook is calling for some measurable snow possibly Thursday night thru Friday night, however the specific amounts are uncertain at this time – stay tuned to a NOAA weather alert radio for more details.


(NEWTON)  While most all area schools are in session today, the Jasper County School District and the St. Thomas Catholic School in Newton has cancelled all classes and extra-curricular activities for this Monday due to the weather conditions – other Illinois schools closed today includes those in Marshall, Paris, Neoga, Windsor, Stewardson-Strasburg, Cowden-Herrick, and Shelbyville – plus a two hour delay for the start of school in Casey-Westfield, Martinsville, and Charleston schools – for a complete list of school closings and other cancellations that have been made known to us, go to our websites – click on the “weather” tab and scroll down at  www.1035theeagle.comwww.freedom929.com,  or  www.wvlnam.com.


(OLNEY)  The Illinois Department of Transportation is reminding all motorists to visit and bookmark the newly designed  www.GettingAroundIllinois.com  website for continually updated information on road conditions around the state – available on computers and mobile devices, the website includes the ability to identify and zoom in to specific location, travel route, and/or destination from anywhere within the state – again, that’s online thru the Illinois Department of Transportation, at  www.GettingAroundIllinois.com.


(NEWTON)  State Representative David Reis has introduced multiple pieces of legislation with the goal of rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in Illinois’ entitlement systems – as the Illinois General Assembly starts its work in Springfield later this month, the Jasper County native says he is focusing hard on finding places to cut the budget and improve efficiencies – Representative Reis is offering three specific proposals that he says will result in savings for Illinois taxpayers  :  HB 4180 would require drug testing for individuals that apply for welfare benefits  :  HB 4181 would require the name and photograph of the primary cardholder to be on an Illinois LINK card – and at the option of the primary cardholder, to list the names of secondary cardholders who are authorized to use the LINK card  :  HB 4182 would bar illegal immigrants from taking part in several entitlement programs in ran by Illinois  :  look for debate and possible action on these and many other proposals as the 2018 Spring Legislative Session gets underway this month in the State Capitol.


(OLNEY)  OSHA Safety Classes are coming to Olney Central College – the classes will cover the general industries of retail, manufacturing, welding, health care, and others, meeting all OSHA requirements  :  the 10-hour Certification begins tomorrow, meeting on Tuesdays, January 9th thru February 27, and Thursdays, March 15th thru May 10th  :  an OSHA 30-hour Certification will meet on Monday nights, starting tonight, and continuing thru May 7th  :  to register or to get more information and/or details, call Olney Central College today at  618-395-7777  or check out the information online at  www.iecc.edu/occ.


(OLNEY)  Olney Central College and the other IECC colleges in Fairfield, Mt. Carmel, and near Robinson are gearing up for the spring semester with classes scheduled to begin this week, today, on this January 8th – OCC is offering free day, evening, and online GED test preparation classes, starting tomorrow, January 9th – plus there are several other classes available at Olney Central College for this Spring Semester of 2018, ranging from cosmetology to auto body collision repair, from drone operations to nursing, and from electrical wiring to aviation, just to name a few – for more information or details about the classes available at any of the four colleges, potential students can contact the respective IECC Student Services office in Olney, Mt. (NEWTON)  The Winter Jasper County Solid Waste Program continues now thru the end of March – the dumpster at the West Liberty site will be available this coming Wednesday morning from 7:30 until 12:00, or if the dumpster is filled before 10:30, another dumpster will be brought to that location – the Newton / Jasper County Highway Garage location will be open Saturday and every Saturday this month from 7:00 to 3:30 accepting appliances (with requirements) plus the county’s drop-off recycling container also available.


(OLNEY)  Tickets go on sale today for the 2nd Annual Chocolate Tour, which will be held on Friday, February 9th, from 11:00 to 6:00, in Olney – the $12 per person tickets are available at the Olney & Greater Richland County Chamber of Commerce office or the Olney City Hall during regular office hours – additional information is on the Facebook Event Page  :  the 2nd Annual Olney Chocolate Tour.


(OLNEY/NEWTON)  All blood donors are encouraged to get out and give blood at their next opportunity – here’s the list of upcoming blood drives in our area  :  tomorrow at the Southern Baptist Church in Olney from 2:00 to 6:00  :  Wednesday at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 12:15 to 6:45  :  on Thursday at the Olney VFW from 1:00 to 6:00  :  also Thursday at the Xenia Fire Department from 2:00 to 6:00  :  Friday at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 7:45 to 2:15  :  all blood types and platelets are much needed to help replenish low area and Midwestern blood supplies to help out those in need.


    The Trinity Preschool benefit breakfast is coming up this Saturday morning at the Trinity Lutheran Church, at the east edge  of Olney, with serving from 7:00 to 12:00 noon – includes pancakes, sausage, biscuits, gravy, sweet breads, & drinks – $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12 – the public is invited

    The Auxiliary of Carle Richland Memorial Hospital has a Pampered Chef fundraiser today, from now until 4:00 this afternoon – that’s in the private dining rooms at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney – all proceeds will help the Auxiliary with its many projects and programs at the hospital – check it out

    There are two municipal meetings on tap tonight  :  the Olney City Council will meet at 7:00  :  the Noble Village Board meets tonight at 7:00  :  both meetings are open to the public.
