(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball last night – the Cardinals dropped a game to the Nationals
* the Redbirds lost to Washington, 14-6
the Cardinals are back at it tonight with game two of the three game series in our nation’s capital

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – OCC split two games on the road
* the Lady Knights lost the first game to Frontier Community College, 11-5 but won game two, 10-1
* OCC is now 18-16 on the year and still at 7-13 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the Lady Knights will resume conference action today with a doubleheader at home against Lincoln Trail

* OCC is still at 27-4 on the year and still undefeated in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference at 10-0
the Blue Knights are back in GRAC action today with a doubleheader at Shawnee Community College

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Olney picked up an LIC victory at home
the Tigers beat Casey-Westfield, 13-1 as Olney outhit the visiting Warriors, 11 to 2
* Dylan Hires was the winning pitcher allowing 1 earned run and striking out 5 in three innings of work
* Gage Miller led Olney with a 3 hit game while driving in 6 runs and scoring 2 himself
* Jake Greifzu also had 3 hits and 1 RBI – Luke Lambird and Mason Kocher had RBI hits
now at 6-4 on the year, 1-0 in the LIC, the Tigers are back in action Thursday when they host Paris
* by the way, the Olney Lady Tigers were rained out in their LIC game at Casey-Westfield

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton lost a tough one-run game on the road
the Eagles lost at Flora, 3-2 as the host Wolves outhit Newton, 10 to 5
* Mitch Bierman led Newton with a triple, 2 singles, and 1 RBI – Lucas Geier had an RBI hit
now at 3-4 overall, 1-1 in the LIC, the Eagles are scheduled to play at Dieterich this afternoon

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Softball yesterday – Newton lost on the road
the Lady Eagles fell to Flora, 13-3 as the host Wolfgals outhit Newton, 17 to 7
* Mariah Earnest and Maddie Stanley led Newton, each with an RBI hit
* Taylor Smith and Kaitlyn Cohorst each had a hit and run scored
the Lady Eagles are back in action this afternoon at Effingham against St. Anthony

the Lady Tigers fell to Murphysboro, 4-0 out on Ed Webber Field at Olney Central College
* Olney’s top player was Stephanie Sturm

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Track & Field yesterday – Olney hosted a seven team meet at RCHS
Newton won the event by beating out 2nd place Olney, 167 to 105 – Mt. Carmel was 3rd with 84 points
* Lawrenceville was 4th with 65 points, followed by Fairfield (57), Flora (27), and Cisne (16)
the Lady Eagles won seven of the eighteen events, with three 2nd’s and three 3rd’s
* Lauren Probst won both the 300 meter hurdles and the triple jump
* Alex Haarman won the 200 meter dash
* Claire Carr won the long jump
* Sydney Rudolphi won the 800 meter run
* Liz Volk won the 100 meter hurdles
* Courtney Hadra won the discus throw
* Grace Hartrich was 2nd in the shot put
* Riley Zumbahlen was 2nd in the 400 meter dash and 3rd in the high jump
* Emma Weber was 3rd in the 3200 meter run
* Jacklyn Barthelme was 3rd in the long jump

the Lady Tigers won five of the eighteen events, with five 2nd’s and two other top five finishes
* Danni Murphy won the high jump
* Cameron Hough won the 1600 meter run
* Chelsea Ochs won the 100 meter dash and was 3rd in the 200 meter dash
* Leah Snyder won the shot put and was 5th in the discus throw
* Cameron Hough, Danni Murphy, Bailey Washburn, and Abby Rauch won the 4x400 relay
* Carmen Rodriguez was 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles and 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles
* Bailey Washburn was 2nd in the 800 meter run
* Danni Murphy, Abby Rauch, Chelsea Ochs, and Trinity Milburn were 2nd in the 4x100 relay
* Bailey Washburn, Gracie Julian, Cameron Hough, and Tristen Payne were 2nd in the 4x800 relay
Olney will compete again this Friday at the Robinson Invitational
Newton is quickly back in action today at Teutopolis

the JV Tigers lost to Edwards County, 3-2 although Olney outhit the Running’ Lions, 4 to 3
* Isaac Pampe had 2 hits – Trevor Zuber had Olney’s only RBI single – Colby Garrard had the other RBI
now at 5-1 on the year, the JV Tigers are back in action today at Newton

* the Redbirds beat the Reds Saturday, 10-4 but lost to Cincinnati yesterday, 8-0
the Cardinals are in Washington for three games tonight thru Wednesday night against the Nationals

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball over the weekend – OCC split a pair of GRAC doubleheaders
* the Lady Knights beat Southeastern Illinois twice on Saturday, 9-1 and 8-3
* but the Lady Knights dropped two in a row against Rend Lake yesterday, 6-3 and 13-3
* OCC is now 17-15 on the year and at 7-13 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the Lady Knights are scheduled to play two today down in Fairfield against Frontier Community College

* Sophia Colclasure won both games, allowing only 2 earned runs and striking out 10 in 12 innings
* Madison Wease led Olney with 3 hits and 2 RBI – Taylor LeCrone had 2 hits and 3 RBI
* Sophia Colclasure had 3 hits and Paige Ginder had 2 hits and 1 RBI
now at 8-3 on the year, the Lady Tigers are scheduled for LIC action at Casey-Westfield today

* Chalyda Tarr and Hannah Hartleroad each had a good match

* Paris finished in 3rd place with 85 points, followed by Charleston in 4th place with 55 points
* Salem and Robinson tied for 5th place, each with 46 points, followed by 7th Mt. Carmel at 36
* the host Tigers ended up in 8th place with 23 points while Fairfield was 9th with 13 points
the 2nd place Newton Eagles won 5 of the 18 events, also had five 2nd places and one third place
* Nick Cartright won both the shot put and the discus throw

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Track - the Olney Invitational was held at Richland County High
the Mattoon Green Wave won the 9-team event, beating 2nd place Newton, 179 to 137

at 27-4 overall, 10-0 in the GRAC, the Blue Knights scheduled to play at Shawnee next Tuesday

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton won its LIC conference opener

* Newton was led by John Grunloh and Mitch Bierman, each with 3 hits, 3 runs scored, and 5 RBI
* a two hit day for Nate Meinhart, Wade Frohning, Cole Horner, Connor Bierman, & Nick Cohorst
* John Grunloh was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs & striking out 11 in five innings
the 3-3 Eagles, now 1-0 in the LIC, return to conference action next Monday at Flora

of that list, there were two postponements due to storms and three extra inning games
* the Midwestern winners were the Reds, Brewers, Indians, Twins, Braves, and Astros
* the Midwestern losers were the Royals, Pirates, and Rangers
* the Cardinals & Cubs will play their final game of the season-opening series today in St. Louis

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Baseball & Softball yesterday – the OCC teams were rained out
at 27-4 overall, 10-0 in the GRAC, the Blue Knights scheduled to play at Millikin University today
at 15-11 overall, 5-9 in the GRAC, the Lady Knights are scheduled for two today down at Rend Lake

while the Tigers did not win an event, they did have two 2nd Place finishes
