(OLNEY)  in mens college basketball Saturday – Illinois lost to the nation's top team from Ohio State, 73-68 despite the Fighting Illini leading by one point at halftime – while the Buckeyes remain undefeated at 20&0 overall, now 7&0 in the Big Ten, the Illini drop to 14&6 on the year, now 4&3 in the league – the Illini are on the road to Bloomington for a Thursday night matchup with the Hoosiers in Indiana
 
(OLNEY)  in junior college basketball Saturday - the OCC teams swept a conference doubleheader from Lincoln Trail College during the Coaches versus Cancer "Pack the Place Pink" night at "The Dungeon"
*  the OCC Blue Knights beat Lincoln Trail, 86-75, led by Austin Akers & Chase Brinkley, each with 16 points – the Blue Knights are 14&5 on the year, now 5&1 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
*  the OCC Lady Blue Knights beat Lincoln Trail, 101-76, led by Tara Worrica & Alicia Tally with 24 & 22 points respectively – the Lady Blue Knights have now won three in a row, now 3&3 in the GRAC and 7&10 overall – the OCC teams will host Wabash Valley this Wednesday in "The Dungeon"
*  elsewhere Saturday in the other GRAC mens' games : Wabash Valley beat Kaskaskia, 93-81 : John A Logan beat Lake Land, 78-75 : Southeastern Illinois beat Rend Lake, 78-55
*  elsewhere Saturday in the other GRAC womens' games : Wabash Valley beat Kaskaskia, 76-50 : Lake Land beat John A Logan, 95-80 : Southeastern Illinois beat Rend Lake, 79-70
 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school wrestling Saturday - Mt Zion won the Conference Championship at the Apollo Wrestling Duals – host Robinson finished second, as the Olney Tigers finished in third place – Charleston was fourth and Effingham finished fifth – individually for Olney :
*  Dakota Thompson was named to the All Apollo 1st Team after winning the 119 pound class title at 4&0
*  Tyler Stuck & Tanner Wingert were both named to the All Apollo 2nd Team – both finished second, winning three of their four matches in the 152 pound class and 189 pound class, respectively
*  three Olney wrestlers were 2&2 on the day – Colton Carmody, Greg Smith, and Mitch Harmon
*  the scoring in the Apollo matches : Olney beat Charleston, 57-24 : Olney beat Effingham, 44-28 : Mt Zion beat Olney, 69-10 : Robinson beat Olney, 62-12 : congrats to the Olney Wrestling Tigers
 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball from Saturday – the Olney Tigers lost their final game at the Carmi / White County Invitational Tournament, but won a share of the title – the Tigers lost in double overtime to Harrisburg, 56-54 – while Harrisburg finished third with a 3&2 record, both Olney & Mt Vernon, Indiana were 4&1, sharing the co-championship, although the Tigers beat Mt Vernon in the head-to-head matchup last Tuesday night : Olney's Michael Fehrenbacher was selected as the Tournament's MVP – others chosen to the All-Tournament Team included Olney's Brook Pampe, Fairfield's Tyler Hutchinson, Harrisburg's Capel Henshaw, Mt Vernon's Jacob Steinhart, & Mt Carmel's Shawn Bumpus : now at 15&5 on the year, the Tigers return to Apollo action tomorrow night, hosting Paris in Ron Herrin Gym 
 
(OLNEY)  also in boys high school basketball from Saturday : Woodlawn won the MTC Tournament with a 55-44 victory over Wayne City : Odin won the third place game, beating Sandoval in overtime, 67-64
 
(OLNEY)  also in boys high school hoops Saturday : Centralia beat Edwardsville, 57-39 to win the Salem Tournament : Mt Vernon beat Charleston, 53-40 for third : Salem beat Effingham, 61-54 for fifth place

*  Class M : Gallatin County beat Century, 48-25 : Aviston beat Fairfield, 29-25 : Breese beat Woodlawn, 34-28 : Red Bud beat Unity Point, 23-21 : the semi-finals are tonight with the finals Friday night

(NEWTON)  it’s back to Apollo Conference girls basketball tonight : Newton will host Mt Zion with early action as the Lady Eagles’ junior varsity plays at 5:30 with the varsity game at around 6:45 : elsewhere tonight – Olney will host Charleston – and it’s Robinson at Salem and Paris at Effingham

(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night at the Carmi / White County Invitational – Olney beat Mt Carmel, 49-42 to improve to 3&0 in the tournament, now 14&4 on the year – the Tigers were led in scoring by Michael Fehrenbacher & Brook Pampe, each with 15 points : in last night’s other games – Mt Vernon, Indiana held off Fairfield, 59-55, and Harrisburg beat the host Bulldogs, 77-45 : the tournament continues with three more games at 10:30, 12 noon, and 1:30 today, followed by the final three games later tonight at 5:30, 7:00, and 8:30 – the Tigers play the final game in each session at 1:30 and 8:30

(NEWTON)  also in boys basketball last night, in non-conference play – Newton split a pair of games with Casey-Westfield : the visiting Warriors won the varsity game, 66-45 as the Eagles drop to an overall record of 11&4 – Peyton Wyatt led Newton with 24 points while Dylan Davidson added 6 points : Newton won the jv game, 51-48 : the Newton Eagles return to action next Friday in Apollo play hosting Paris at NCHS

(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball last night – Olney was eliminated from the Highland Tournament with a 5th place semi-final game loss to Breese Central, 63-39 – the Lady Tigers fall to 17&5 on the year – Breese Central moves into today’s 5th place game against Belleville West who last night eliminated Salem, 57-45 – in the championship bracket semi-final last night, host Highland slipped by Nashville, 33-32 – the tournament’s final four games are today with the host Lady Bulldogs against Edwardsville in the title game
 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night in the Midland Trail Conference Tournament – Wayne City beat Odin, 37-36 and Woodlawn beat Sandoval, 69-36 in the semi-finals – the Tournament will finish up this afternoon and tonight with all the final games at North Clay High School in Louisville

(OLNEY)  in girls junior high basketball – best of luck to the Olney Lady Cubs as they travel to the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association’s Class “L” State Tournament today down at Rend Lake College – it’s a 10:45 matchup with Olney against Carlyle – the Lady Cubs enter with a record of 14&2, with one of the two losses to Carlyle earlier this year at the Lady Bobcat Tournament in Salem – the tournament continues with semi-final action next Tuesday and the finals set for a week from today

(OLNEY)  the Olney Wrestling Tigers are ready for the Apollo Conference Duals coming up today at the Robinson – with weigh-in at 8:00, the duals get started at 9:00 this morning with teams from Olney, Robinson, Effingham, Charleston, & Mt Zion taking part – the Tigers enter at 11&6 overall, on the year
 
(OLNEY)  in junior college basketball on this Saturday – all are invited to the "Coaches versus Cancer" event tonight in "The Dungeon" at Olney Central College – all are encouraged to wear "pink" as OCC will host Lincoln Trail College – it's Lady Blue Knights at 5:30, followed by Blue Knights basketball at 7:30 – wear some pink & help with cancer awareness at OCC tonight  :  the other GRAC matchups tonight include John A Logan at Lake Land, Wabash Valley at Kaskaskia, & Rend Lake at Southeastern Illinois

(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball – the Highland Tournament will resume with three games tonight : in the 5th place semi-final games – Olney plays Breese Central at 5:00, then Salem plays Belleville West at 6:30, and the 8:00 game will feature a championship bracket semi-final matchup between Nashville and the host Bulldogs – the final four games are set for tomorrow at 10:00, 11:30, 1:00, and 2:30
 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball – the Carmi-White County Invitational will resume with three games tonight – in fact, last night's schedule will be played tonight : it's Olney & Mt Carmel at 5:30 : Carmi & Harrisburg at 7:00 : and Mt Vernon & Fairfield at 8:30 – the tournament's fourth session will be Saturday morning & afternoon, with games at 10:30, 12 noon, & 1:30 – then the final three games will go on as scheduled Saturday night with the Tigers in a final game matchup with the Harrisburg Bulldogs at 8:30

(NEWTON)  also in boys high school hoops tonight – the Newton Eagles will be at home in the NCHS Gym to host the Warriors from Casey-Westfield High – it’ll be jv action at 6:15, with the varsity game at around 7:30  :  meanwhile, NCHS fans are reminded that next Thursday night, the 27th, will be “Senior Night” for the girls high school basketball team – the lone two seniors on the Lady Eagles’ squad will be honored in their final regular season game at NCHS – it’ll also be “Pack the Place Night” at NCHS

(OLNEY)  in junior college basketball last night in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference – the Olney Central College teams swept a conference doubleheader from Kaskaskia :
*  the Blue Knights won the mens game, 66-59 led by Ason Hacker & Jordan Mitchell, each with 16 points, plus Chase Brinkley added 14 points – the Blue Knights improve to 4&1 in the GRAC, now 13&5 overall
*  the Lady Blue Knights won their game with a final score, 69-56 – the Ladies were led in scoring by Tara Wornica with 25 points & Alyssa Like with 19 – the Lady Blue Knights improve to 2&3 in the GRAC, now 6&10 overall : the OCC teams now prepare to host Lincoln Trail in “The Dungeon” this Saturday night
*  in the other GRAC games for men last night : Wabash Valley beat Southwestern Illinois, 77-69 : John A Logan beat Lincoln Trail, 88-63 : the Lake Land at Southeastern Illinois game was cancelled

(OLNEY)  in high school wrestling this past Tuesday – Olney out-muscled Mt Carmel, 34-30 as the Tigers extend their yearly record to 11&6 on the year – Olney won eight of the fourteen classes – winners include :
*  Aaron Foerster won the 215 pound class
*  Tyler Stuck won the 160 pound class
*  Jake Schmitt won the 145 pound class
*  Mitch Harmon won the 140 pound class
*  Greg Smith won the 130 pound class
*  Dakota Thompson won the 125 pound class
*  Derek Novak won the 125 pound class
*  Colton Carmody won the 112 pound class

(NEWTON)  in boys junior high basketball from last night – St Joe took two from Newton St Thomas : the Wildcats won the 8th grade game, 42-37 – leading St Joe was Klayton Craig with 11 points, Andrew Steber & Ethan Eagleson each added 10 points – the St Joe varsity improves to 14&3 on the year : St Joe also won the 7th grade game, 40-24 – the jv Wildcats are now 10&6 : tonight’s St Joe games with Sigel St Michael is already cancelled – St Joe plays in the Belleville Diocesan Tournament tomorrow night as the #2 seed
 
(OLNEY)  in boys junior high basketball from this past Tuesday night – Olney dropped two games to North Knox, Indiana : the Cubs lost only their third 8th grade game of the year, falling 39-20 – the varsity Cubs are now 14&3 on the year : North Knox also won the 7th grade game, 40-23 – the junior varsity Cubs are now 2&13 : the Cubs are scheduled to host Red Hill tonight at the ERMS Gym in Olney

(NEWTON)  on tonight’s schedule for girls high school basketball – the Newton Lady Eagles are set to play at Lawrenceville in non-conference action while the Olney Lady Tigers are scheduled for a 5th place semi-final game against Breese Central over at the Highland Tournament – listen for possible cancellations

(OLNEY)  tonight’s schedule for boys high school hoops at the Carmi-White County Invitational Tourney has the Olney Tigers in the opening game against Mt Carmel at 5:30, followed by Carmi & Harrisburg at 7:00, then Mt Vernon & Fairfield at 8:30 – stay tuned for possible cancellations and rescheduling
