(OLNEY)  in mens college basketball last night – Illinois beat Michigan, 54-52 – the Illini improve to 17&9 on the year, now 7&6 in the Big Ten, while the Wolverines drop to 16&11 overall, now 6&8 in the league – Illinois hits the road for a Saturday night Big Ten battle against the Spartans at Michigan State
 
(OLNEY)  in jr college basketball last night – the OCC teams split a GRAC doubleheader with Kaskaskia :
* the OCC Blue Knights beat Kaskaskia, 91-82 – leading OCC was Ason Hacker with 21 points, while P J Alston added 19 points – the Blue Knights are now 8&5 in the GRAC, now 17&9 on the year
* the OCC Lady Blue Knights lost to Kaskaskia, 82-74 – for OCC, Alyssa Like had 16 points – the Lady Blue Knights fall back to 6&7 in the GRAC, now 10&15 on the year

(NEWTON)  in boys high school basketball last night – Newton swept a pair of Apollo Conference games from Olney : the Eagles won the varsity game, 62-51 – Newton was led by Peyton Wyatt with 23 points, while Scott Jansen added 11 points – for Olney, Joel Eagleson had 16 points – the Eagles improve to 17&7 on the year, now 8&5 in the Apollo – Olney drops to 18&9 on the year, now 6&6 in the league : Newton won the jv game, 27-14 : Olney returns to action tonight in rescheduled play at Paris, while Newton will close out it’s regular season schedule this Friday night on the road at Paris

(OLNEY)  in junior college basketball last night – the OCC teams split a doubleheader with Southwestern Illinois in “The Dungeon” at Olney Central College :
*   the Blue Knights lost to the visiting Blue Storm, 80-61 – the leading scorers were Ason Hacker with 20 points & Jordan Mitchell with 13 points – the Blue Knights drop to 7&5 in the GRAC, now 16&9 overall
*   the Lady Blue Knights picked up a huge win in double overtime, beating Southwestern Illinois, 74-71 – Alyssa Like led all scorers with 24 points, while Jessica Zavoral added 16 points – the OCC Ladies are now 6&6 in the GRAC, now 10&14 overall  :  the OCC teams will host Kaskaskia tomorrow night 
*   in the other mens GRAC games : Southeastern Illinois beat Lincoln Trail in overtime, 88-83 : Lake Land beat Kaskaskia, 91-72

* Class 2A @ Robinson : the Olney Lady Tigers had their season come to an end with a 58-46 loss to the Lady Aces of Mt Carmel – ERHS seniors Taylor Stevenson & Ebany Brumfield combined for 29 points as the Lady Tigers finish the season with a record of 23&8 – Mt Carmel moves into the Thursday night title game against Teutopolis as the Lady Wooden Shoes beat Paris in the other semi-final game, 60-37
* Class 1A @ Woodlawn : Red Hill beat Woodlawn, 32-30
* Class 1A @ Moweaqua : Cowden-Herrick / Beecher City beat Tuscola, 54-43

*   the Blue Knights beat the visiting Warriors, 73-70, led by PJ Alton with 19 points, while Ason Hacker & Austin Akers added 14 each – the Blue Knights improve to 7&4 in the GRAC, now 16&8 on the year
*   the Lady Blue Knights held on to beat Rend Lake, 81-77, led by Alecia Tally & Tara Wornica, each with 23 points – the OCC Ladies are now 5&6 in the GRAC, now 9&14 overall

(OLNEY)  in high school wrestling from the Vandalia Sectional last Friday & Saturday – none of the Olney Tigers advanced to state, but the ERHS Wrestlers represented our area very well – here’s our local results :
*  Tyler Stuck won two matches & lost two in the 152 pound class – finished the year with a mark of 32&10
*  Tanner Wingert won one match & lost two in the 189 pound class – finished the year at 28&12
*  Colton Carmody won one match & lost two in the 112 pound class – finished the year at 28&12
*  Dakota Thompson lost two matches in the 125 pound class – finished the year with a record of 30&10
*  Zack Stanley lost two matches in the 285 pound class – the freshmen finished the year at 10&19

* Class 1A : Effingham Sacred Heart beat Edinburg, 49-42 in the first round – the Shamrocks then lost their semi-final game to Jacksonville Our Savior, 42-34 – Sacred Heart plays in the 3rd place game Thursday
* Class 2A : Ramsey was eliminated by Normal Metcalf, 47-31 – the Jr Rams finish the year at 15&8

* Class 2A @ Robinson : Olney plays Mt Carmel at 6:00, followed by Teutopolis & Paris

(OLNEY)  ERHS officials say around 100 tickets remain for the Olney Lady Tigers sectional semi-final game Monday night at 6:00 against Mt Carmel – the $5 tickets will again be on sale Monday morning from 8:00 til 12 noon in the ERHS Faculty Lounge – after that, the tickets will have to be purchased at the gate
