(OLNEY) in Girls High School Basketball last night- Olney won on the road

The Lady Tigers beat Marshall 51-43. Julie Luna had 23 points to lead Olney.

Marshall won the JV game 48-38

The Lady Tigers are back in action hosting Fairfield Thursday night in Ron Herrin Gym.

 

(NEWTON) in Girls High School Basketball last night- Newton takes two at Bridgeport

The Newton Lady Eagles beat Red Hill 53-29 , Newton is now 5-5 and 2-1 in the LIC

Newton also won the JV game 34-13.

The Newton Lady Eagles will host Effingham St. Anthony Thursday Night.

Fairfield also won the junior varsity game, 58-37 giving the Olney JV its first loss of the year (3-1)

the Cubs beat Harrisburg in the 8th grade game, 49-24
* Olney was led by Chase Travis with 23 points and 12 rebounds – Kitch St. Pierre added 12 points
Olney also won the 7th grade game over Harrisburg, 30-15
the varsity Cubs improve to 10-1 on the year while the junior varsity squad is now 7-2
Olney’s back in action tomorrow night when they host Centralia in the RCMS Gym in Olney

the Tigers beat Red Hill in varsity play, 61-55 as Olney improves to 3-4 on the year, now 1-1 in the LIC
* Olney was led by Braden Flanagan with 15 points while senior Connor Zuber poured in 14 points
* Sutton Dunn had 12 points and fellow juniors Brent Hatten and Dakotah Brown each scored 8 points
Olney won the junior varsity game, 40-27 as the jv squad remains unbeaten at 3-0
the Tigers are quickly back in action tonight as they host Fairfield in Ron Herrin Gym at RCHS

the Eagles won the varsity game over North Clay, 63-28 as Newton is now 5-2 overall

* Renae Russell and Claire Carr each added 6 points apiece
Newton also won the junior varsity game, 26-14

* the varsity Cubs improve to 9-1 on the year, they are 2-0 in the Junior NEC

the Knights came back to beat Indiana Elite Prep, 97-92 after trailing for most of the game

* freshman center Tyler Witz had a career high 18 points while Davion Warren added 13 points
* the OCC Men improve to 7-2 on the year

the Tigers lost at Mattoon, 34-43 as the Green Wave are ranked 21st in Class 2A wrestling in Illinois
Olney won six of the fourteen individual matches
* Skyler Sutton won the 285 pound match by forfeit
* Kyle Beasley won the 195 pound match with a fall in 3:47
* Hunter Summitt won the 182 pound match by forfeit
* Ean Pottorff won the 145 pound match with a fall in 1:24
* Jarrett Fuson won the 138 pound match with a fall in 1:36
* and Reese Britton won the 126 pound match in an 11-0 major decision

member schools have approved five amendment proposals in the annual by-law referendum
* the online voting ended this past Tuesday with 609 of Illinois’ 811 member schools (75.1%) taking part
* this was the state’s third highest participation percentage in 21 years of recordkeeping by the IHSA
here’s a summary of the proposals and the vote totals from the membership
    (the numbers in parentheses indicate the total yes, no, and no opinion votes by member schools)
PROPOSAL 6  :  was passed (428-138-41) and will take effect on January 5th, 2018
* grants eligibility to a student who has received a Legislative Waiver, who lives in a unit district with one
   high school, and whose parent is on the faculty of a school in the district – the current by-law says the
   parent must be on the faculty of the high school
PROPOSAL 17  :  was rejected (292-305-10) by a slim thirteen vote tally
* would have reduced the number of summer contact days from 25 down to 20
PROPOSAL 20  :  was passed (435-147-24) and will take effect July 1st, 2018
* allows a baseball or softball team to play more than 5 contests during a tournament, if the tournament
   takes place over the member school’s spring break
PROPOSAL 24  :  was passed (384-201-22)  and will take effect July 1st, 2018
* changes the contest limitation in girls & boys basketball to 31 games exclusive of the IHSA state series 
   and removes the limit on the number of tournaments – the current limitation is a combination of games
   plus tournaments – it also eliminates the limitation on the number of tournaments an individual in girls
   and boys basketball may participate in
PROPOSAL 25  :  was passed (243-154-208) and will take effect July 1st, 2018
* increases the contest limitation in girls & boys bowling from 20 to 25 dates exclusive of postseason
PROPOSAL 27  :  was passed (379-204-25) and will take effect July 1st, 2018
* changes the contest limitation in girls & boys volleyball to 35 games exclusive of the IHSA state series
   and removes the limit on the number of tournaments – the current limitation is a combination of games
   plus tournaments – it also eliminates the limitation on the number of tournaments an individual in girls
   and boys volleyball may participate in

it’s one of the Distinguished Media Service Award winners – Greg Sapp of Effingham
* the award presentation will be next Tuesday night during the Teutopolis at Effingham boys game
* the special presentation will occur at halftime of the game at centercourt
* a life-long Effingham resident, Greg will be recognized for his broadcasting efforts since the mid 1970’s
* award recipients must be nominated by a member IHSA school, Effingham High School in Greg’s case
this is one of four Distinguished Media Service Awards presented around the state in this 2017-2018 year
