JASPER COUNTY JUNE BOARD MEETING RECAP

(NEWTON) The Jasper County Board had its regular monthly meeting for June a week ago tonight in Newton. The Board : approved the payment of all bills from May worth $307,282 : on an 8 to 1 vote, approved an Amended Fiscal Year 2024 Jasper County Budget to reflect the hiring of a State’s Attorney Investigator : approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Jasper County School District for a School Resource Officer with the cost to be split with the School District paying 80% of the employee compensation and other costs and the County paying 20% : agreed to give State’s Attorney James Treccia the authorization to sign and give consent on behalf of Jasper County in the Opioid Settlement : approved four resolutions from the County Highway Department – the $667,704 bid from Mt. Carmel Stabilization for the West Liberty Road Soil Cement Project – the $463,508 bid from C-Hill Civil Contractors for the Fox Township Bridge Project – the $270,775 bid from Mt. Carmel Stabilization for the Crooked Creek Township Soil Cement Project near Rose Hill – and a Bridge Aid Petition worth $7,308 for Crooked Creek Township : approved the appointment of Kenneth Campton as Trustee for the Dieterich Community Fire Protection District : approved the reappointments of Tom Clark and Jacy Ghast to At-Large Positions on the Jasper County Board of Health : noted the Ambulance Department was awarded the Mary Heath Grant worth $13,069 to purchase a CPR automated device : heard updates on the County’s fiber project and the County/City of Newton website : and after voting last month to form a Special Courthouse Design Committee, the process is underway to build a new Jasper County Courthouse, with an estimated total cost, including contingencies, at nearly $5.83 million, although no demolition and/or construction will start until late 2025 or early 2026 : the next regular monthly meeting of the Jasper County Board will be July 18th.
