(OLNEY)  in Men’s Division One College Hoops last night – Illinois losses a tough overtime game
the Fighting Illini fell to Iowa, 104-97
* Illinois’ now 10-8 on the year and still winless in the Big Ten Conference at 0-5
the Illini are back in conference action next Monday night at Nebraska with an 8:00 tipoff


(NEWTON)  in Girls High School Hoops – the Little Illini Conference Tournament started last night
the tournament’s lone play-in game was held
* Robinson beat Red Hill, 49-33
the Tournament’s four quarter-final games are scheduled for tomorrow at Casey-Westfield High School
* Olney plays Robinson at 3:00
* Casey-Westfield plays Flora at 4:30
* Paris plays Lawrenceville at 6:00
* Marshall plays Newton at 7:30
the semi-finals are slated for next week – winner’s bracket Tuesday night, loser’s bracket Wednesday night
the tournament’s final three games will be played next Thursday night in Casey
fans are reminded that admission is $4.00 per person, for both adults and students alike
the gates will open 30 minutes prior to the first game of the day or night
concessions will be sold in the school cafeteria near the northeast gym entrance

* Oblong beat Palestine-Hutsonville, 50-21
* Eldorado beat Carmi, 53-50
* Hamilton County beat Wayne City, 60-24
* Christ Our Rock Lutheran beat Woodlawn, 45-30
* Carbondale beat Mt. Vernon, 49-46
* Benton beat Du Quoin, 58-48


(OLNEY)  in Boys Junior High Basketball last night – Olney swept two games at home
the Cubs won the 8th grade game over Fairfield, 46-13 as the varsity improves to 14-3 on the year
* Olney was led by Chase Travis with a double/double, 22 points and 10 rebounds
* Drew Blank and Zacheriah Wease each scored 8 points apiece
Olney won the 7th grade game over Fairfield, 33-20 as the junior varsity improves to 10-5 on the year
* also congratulations to Coach Rick Franklin who was honored prior to the varsity game
* Coach Franklin was presented with the SIJHSAA’s new Longevity Coaching Award which bears his name
the Cubs are back in action next Tuesday night when they host North Knox, Indiana at RCMS
* the 7th grade / junior varsity game next Tuesday night will begin earlier than normal with a 5:30 start time

* the Olney Tigers are scheduled to play at Flora
* the Newton Eagles are scheduled to host Lawrenceville

the nine-team, thirteen game, double elimination tournament will be played at Red Hill High in Bridgeport
* Casey-Westfield received the top seed
* rounding out the top four seeds were Robinson (2), Olney (3), and Newton (4)
* then Marshall (5), Flora (6), Red Hill (7), Paris (8), and Lawrenceville (9)
the tournament starts with a single play-in game a week from tonight
the tournament’s quarter-final games will be a week from tomorrow


(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Wrestling – Olney is scheduled to return to the mats tomorrow
the Wrestling Tigers are among several teams tomorrow at the Mahomet-Seymour Tournament


(OLNEY)  in Girls Junior High Basketball – the Region 8 Class L Regional begins in Olney
the two semi-final games will be tomorrow at the Richland County Middle School Gym
* the host Lady Cubs will play Flora at 9:30
* then Mt. Carmel plays Carmi at 11:00
the two winning teams will meet next Monday night for the championship game at 7:00 at RCMS
the winner advances to the SIJHSAA Class L State Tournament starting at week from tomorrow

* there are six separate Caravans with stops in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, and two other states
* the Cardinals again are implementing the Autograph Ticket system at each stop
* the first 400 children (15 and under) thru the door will receive a free Autograph Ticket
* this ticket guarantees one autograph from each current and former player available at each site
* due to the high demand, autographs will only be available for children age 15 and under
