* Class 1A @ Odin : Mulberry Grove beat Odin, 11-1

(OLNEY) the Class 2A Boys Track & Field Sectional at Mahomet-Seymour was held yesterday :
* the host Bulldogs won the event, followed by Mattoon, Charleston, & Champaign Centennial
* while Olney didn’t place in the top teams, five Tigers will advance to the Class 2A State Meet
* Olney’s Blaine Storer won the state high jump competition
* Nick Dobbs, Matthew DeVenecia, Joel Eagleson, & Shane Newman were 2nd in the 3200 meter relay
* others advancing to state were from Mattoon, Effingham, Charleston, & Paris

(NEWTON) the Class 1A Boys Track & Field Sectional at Moweaqua was also held yesterday :
* advancing to the State Meet from Cumberland was Jackson Green in the high jump

(OLNEY) in auto racing news – following last week’s second place finish at the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana, Levi Jones will look for his first checkered flag of the 2012 season tonight during the “Larry Rice Classic” at the Bloomington, Indiana Speedway – the five time USAC Champion currently sits tied for fourth place in the AMSOIL USAC National Point Standings, just 47 points back of first place

(FLORA) and it’s back to the dirt track at the Clay County Speedway tomorrow night just north of Flora – while the Sprint Cars will compete for an $800 top prize, the regular lineup of modifieds, crate lates, street stocks, pure stocks, and mini-stocks will also take place – the gates open at 4:30 with racing at 7:30, plus the regular grandstand admission is still only $5 per person – all at the Clay County Speedway

(OLNEY) in high school baseball yesterday – Olney ended it’s regular season schedule by falling to Centralia, 10-0 in seven innings as the host Tigers were out-hit, 12 to 2 – Olney’s only hits were Mitchell Kocher’s lead off double in the 7th inning and Justin Bailey’s two-out single in the sixth – Centralia’s winning pitcher, Kyle Davis, threw only 51 pitches, 42 of which were strikes – prior to the game, Olney’s seven seniors were recognized with their parents, including Brook Pampe, Brandon Mitchell, Cherokee Edgington, Michael Fehrenbacher, Cody Holmes, Mitchell Kocher, & Erik Clodfelter – now 20&14, the Tigers will now face Fairfield in a Class 2A Regional semi-final game tomorrow afternoon at Flora
