WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND IN OUR AREA (05/03/2024)

(OLNEY) There’s a winner every weekend at the Olney VFW with its next Queen of Hearts drawing, all open to the public, at 4:00 this Sunday afternoon. Following a $20 winner this past weekend, the top jackpot now is now up to $3,896 if the winner is present, or half that amount if not, plus smaller possible card winners as well. And remember, the drawing is live-streamed on the VFW Post page on Facebook. Tickets are now on sale right up until draw time. And by the way, the VFW’s canteen will be closed until 3:00 Sunday for the VFW’s District meeting. Stop by for tickets at North Walnut Street or call 392-4226.

(OLNEY) The Olney VFW will have its Kentucky Derby Party this Saturday evening starting at 4:00. It’s a carry in meal, so bring your favorite dish to share. They’ll have prizes for the best hats, funniest hat, the best dressed, and maybe for the biggest hat. All are invited.

(OLNEY) The 2024 Olney Downtown Market begins this weekend, located at Bower Park, along South Whittle Avenue. That’s from 10:00 to 2:00 Saturday with lots of local artisans, homesteaders, and more. The Olney Downtown Market starting tomorrow in Olney.

(NOBLE) All are invited to the Noble MayFest Car Show this coming Saturday morning and afternoon in the Village Park in Noble. There will be plenty of vehicles in the car show, plus plenty of concessions and more. North Noble Avenue will be closed from 8:00 to 3:00.

(SAILOR SPRINGS) The Clay City/Sailor Springs American Legion Post 230 has another first Saturday of the month breakfast this weekend with serving from 7:00 to 10:00 with all-you-can-eat biscuits, gravy, sausage, and drinks for a donation at the door. That’s just off the Clay City/Dieterich Blacktop in Sailor Springs this coming Saturday morning. All invited.

(CLAY CITY) The Clay City Firemen will have their annual “spring breakfast” fundraiser this weekend with serving from 6:00 to 10:00 at the Firehouse in Clay City. With a menu of biscuits, gravy, pancakes, sausage, coffee, milk, and juice, it’s all for a simple donation at the door. Any remaining gun raffle tickets will also be for sale at the door with the drawing at 10:00. All proceeds go to the department for firefighting and emergency equipment.

(OLNEY) The OCC Music Department and its Concert Choir and Musical Theater Workshop students will present their Spring Musical Theater Showcase this coming Friday night, May 3rd, at 7:00, in the Dr. John D. Stull Performing Arts Center at Olney Central College. The performance will feature a diverse group of students this year, including several OCC Band members, some of whom have never performed in vocal ensembles. Various selections will be performed. Admission is free, although donations to the department will be accepted.

(NEWTON) It’s another Queen of Hearts drawing this Friday night at 6:30 at the American Legion Post 20 in Newton with tickets on sale up until draw time and a jackpot at $7,720. The Queen’s Menu will include items from the K.J. Taco Fiesta Food Truck with serving at 4:00. Either dine in or carry out this Friday night at 108 East Jourdan Street in Newton.
