YESTERDAY’S USDA ILLINOIS HOG AND PIGS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Hogs & Pigs Report : the Illinois inventory of all hogs & pigs on September 1st, 2024, was 5.60 million head, down 3% from June 1st this year, but up 2% from a year ago : the breeding inventory, at 650,000 head, was down 10,000 from the previous quarter, and down 20,000 from last year : the market hog inventory, at 4.95 million head, was down 3% from June 1st, but up 2% from a year ago : the June-August 2024 pig crop, at 3.45 million head, was up 1% from 2023 : sows farrowing June-August totaled 300,000 head, up 5,000 from last year : the average pigs saved per litter was 11.50 for the June-August period, compared to 11.60 a year ago in 2023.
