12TH ANNUAL “STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE” THIS WEEKEND

(OLNEY/NEWTON) The National Association of Letter Carriers will have their 12th Annual nationwide “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” this coming Saturday, May 10th. To help out, residents with Olney, Newton, and other area addresses are encouraged to participate by donating nonperishable food items in a bag this coming Saturday before the normal mail delivery time and the letter carrier will do the rest. Residents, especially those in rural areas, can leave their food on the front porch or steps, and leave a note for their letter carrier in their mail box with the red flag up, indicating where the food is. All food will then be sorted and delivered to a local food pantry to help those in need locally. Since beginning in 1993, the “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” has grown into the nation’s largest one day food drive. Most all other area and regional post offices are also taking part this Saturday.
