2024 MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS AND REMINDERS

(OLNEY/NOBLE/NEWTON) A reminder that most all city and village halls will be closed next Monday, May 27th, in observance of Memorial Day 2024. Folks are also encouraged to attend one of the many area Memorial Day remembrance programs on Monday as well.

(OLNEY) All are encouraged to attend the Memorial Day events on Monday in Olney. It all begins with staging at the Olney VFW on North Walnut Street, just north of the Courthouse at 10:30 in the morning. The Parade will leave the VFW at 10:45 and move northward on Walnut Street to Haven Hill Cemetery, where the Memorial Day program is scheduled to start at 11:00. In the event of rain, the program will be held in the VFW Hall at the Post.

(OLNEY) The Sons of the American Legion needs volunteers to help put out flags on every Veterans gravesite in Haven Hill Cemetery. Gather at the VFW at 8:00 Monday morning.

(SAILOR SPRINGS) In neighboring Clay County, the Clay City/Sailor Springs American Legion Post 230 will be performing military honors at five area cemeteries this Sunday afternoon. At the Clay City Cemetery at 1:00, the Mt. Zion Cemetery (between Clay City & Flora off of Route 50) at 1:30, the Dillman Cemetery (west of Sailor Springs) at 2:00, the Smith Cemetery (southeast of Sailor Springs) at 3:00, and the Ingraham Cemetery at 3:30. The public is welcome to attend either one or all the before mentioned programs Sunday.

(OLNEY) The City of Olney’s brush dump will be closed next Monday for Memorial Day. While the brush dump is open today and tomorrow, from 10:00 to 4:00 each day, it will be back open next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from 10:00 to 4:00 each day. Also, most all garbage collection services should be on schedule this week and next week with no delays.
