(SPRINGFIELD) This is Farm Safety and Health Week in Illinois with a theme of “Safety First, Avoid the Worst.” Marking the 80th year for the annual observance nationwide, the emphasis this week is simply to remind all farmers and ag-related workers to follow safety precautions during the fall harvest season. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the agriculture sector is the most dangerous in America, with more than 500 fatalities every year. Roadway crashes, tractor rollovers, and confined space accidents, mostly involving grain bins, top the list of risks that farmers face. Let’s continue to be safe out there.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Central Management Services is expanding its Intern-To-Hire Program, partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation to include engineering roles. According to a CMS statement, the initiative provides a pathway for aspiring civil engineers to launch long-term public service careers in Illinois. The program offers structured, paid internships, leading to possible full-time state jobs.

(CHICAGO) The Chicago Fed Survey of Economic Conditions Activity Index has dropped to negative 14 here in September from the plus 1 ranking in August, suggesting that economic growth was below trend. While the survey includes Illinois and four other Midwestern states, this month’s number still represents an improvement from negative 22 in July.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office is auctioning a variety of unclaimed property items online now through this coming Sunday, September 28th. The auction features a diverse array of collectibles, including sports cards and much more. A total of 150 lots will be auctioned, some featuring multiple items. Prospective bidders must sign up on the HiBid website to participate. The auction follows a successful in-person event at the Illinois State Fair in August, which set records with a total sales amount of $374,582.
