(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Public Health and the DuPage County Health Department are investigating two cases of Legionnaires’ disease that are linked to a skilled nursing facility in Bloomingdale. IDPH officials say both individuals have since recovered. Illinois has so far this year reported 287 statewide cases of Legionnaires’ disease. It’s a requirement that all cases must be reported to local health departments within three days.
(SPRINGFIELD) Some lawmakers are supporting a complaint to the U.S. Department of Education over student data privacy. The federal complaint accuses Illinois State University of violating privacy laws by sharing student data with the ALL IN network and with ISU’s Center for Civic Engagement for election-related activities without consent. The complaint also names Heartland Community College, Eureka College, and Millikin University among schools accused of giving student directory information, including addresses and phone numbers. The federal complaint will be considered by the U.S. Department of Education.
(SPRINGFIELD) Numerous Illinois conservation police officers and civilians are being recognized for their service to the people of Illinois. The State Department of Natural Resources has announced that Officer of the Year is Austin Priest, who conducted at least 50 major investigations including fraud, baiting, and poaching cases. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Holt received the Civilian Hero Award for saving someone who fell into ice back in February in Winnebago County. Other details are available at the dnr.illinois.gov website.
