ANOTHER BUSY WEEK OF ACTIVITIES

(OLNEY) The next Queen of Hearts drawing at the Olney VFW is this Sunday afternoon at 4:00, with tickets on sale up until 3:55, and all open to the public. This week’s jackpot will be worth over $7,000 to the winner, if present. Also this weekend, is the next Queen’s Bonus” drawing where $100 could be won, but the winning ticket holder must be present. As always, all are invited to stop by the Olney VFW. Proceeds to benefit Veterans & families.


(TEUTOPOLIS) The Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874 will host a fundraising breakfast this coming Sunday morning at the Teutopolis Banquet Center, with serving from 7:00 to 12:00, with free will donations accepted at the door. Cooked to perfection by Council Members & community volunteers, all proceeds will benefit area families with Intellectual Disabilities & Programs that provide those services. The menu includes whole-hog sausage, fried or scrambled eggs, cinnamon rolls & fresh sweet breads, pancakes, hashbrowns, milk, juice, and coffee. There will also be free face painting, kids character strolls, a petting zoo, baked goods, and raffles. All are invited out to help those who cannot help themselves.

(CLAY CITY) The Clay City Christian Church will have a fundraising pork burger cookout this Saturday with serving from 11:00 until 1:00, or until sold out, in the church parking lot. It’s pork burgers by sandwich or as a meal, with chips and a drink, all for a donation. All the proceeds go to the church high school youth group to attend a Christian Youth Concert.


(ALBION) The University of Illinois Extension will host a special workshop this coming Saturday morning in Albion, running from 9:00 to 10:30, free of charge. Local Master Gardener Debbie Fearn will be joined by Joy Hocking of Hocking’s Green Thumb Nursery and Doug Krajec with Krajec Landscaping to discuss topics such as landscape management, preparing for spring flower gardening in the fall, cleaning & shoring gardening tools for winter, and more. Those interested in attending are encouraged to submit questions and other topics for discussion when registering for the workshop at go.illinois.edu/FallFocus or by calling the Edwards County Extension Office in Albion ASAP at 618-445-2934.


(OLNEY) The annual squirrel corn giveaway will take place this Saturday morning at the Olney City Park, starting at 9:00. Look for the big red wagon & bring your own containers. The limited supply of ear corn will be available free of charge to City of Olney residents for the sole purpose of feeding the squirrels of Olney. That’s this Saturday in the City Park.


(OLNEY) The City of Olney’s 47th Annual Squirrel Count continue, but end this Saturday morning with the final count. Volunteers are needed. Contact City Hall if any questions.


(DIETERICH) The St. Paul Lutheran Church, along the blacktop, north of Dieterich, will have it’s final Corn Maze with Scavenger Hunt and more this weekend, from 6:00 to 10:00 Friday night, from 11:00 to 10:00 Saturday, and from 11:00 to 5:00 Sunday. Admission is $5.00 per person, free for children ages 5 and younger, and bring a flashlight for the evening hour visits. Also free train rides and games for the children and concessions for sale. All invited.


(NEWTON) The next Queen of Hearts drawing at the American Legion Post 20 in Newton is this Friday night at 6:30, with the jackpot at $65,300. Tickets are available Monday through Saturday at the Legion, get six for $5.00 or thirty for $20.00. If a ticket is drawn and it’s not the Queen the ticket holder gets $200, but must be present to win, plus Jokers pay out $300 but the ticket holder must be present. Must be 21 to play. If the Queen is drawn, 50% of the jackpot goes to the winner, need not be present to win, while the other half of the jackpot goes to the Legion’s new building fund. That’s at 108 East Jourdan Street in Newton.

(OLNEY) The Richland County Health Office will have its next Covid/Flu Shot Walk-In Clinic this Wednesday at 208 East Maint Street in Olney. That’s from 8:00 to 12:00 in the morning and from 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon with the Pfizer Covid vaccinations and all types of flu shots available.
