(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Corrections has started scanning the mail of prison inmates throughout the state, however lawmakers are not happy with the delays in the process as well as other IDOC issues. The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules met yesterday as the fall veto session began in Springfield. Committee members discussed an emergency rule for the Department of Corrections to scan inmate mail in an effort to reduce the risk of contraband entering statewide correctional facilities, which over the past few years has led to multiple injuries not only to inmates, but to facility staff members.

(CHICAGO) The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Chicago office has announced the results of a four week long sting in northern Illinois, called Operation Summer Heat. Joining forces with local law enforcement partners, the FBI reported 166 total arrests, 92 total drug seizures, 34 illegal firearms seized, and eleven missing children found and identified.

(SPRINGFIELD) Concerns about ghost medical insurance networks and zombie state boards and commissions were raised during a review of a recent audit for Illinois Central Management Services. The bipartisan Legislative Audit Commission met yesterday at the State Capitol to also review audits for the State EPA & other entities. State Senator Chapin Rose of Mahomet took the opportunity to address ghost networks for state employees.

(BLOOMINGTON) The State of Illinois is suing Illinois-based State Farm Insurance, alleging the company refused to comply with a regulatory examination of its nationwide homeowners insurance business. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office announced the action yesterday, saying the Illinois Department of Insurance opened up an investigation into State Farm’s policies & premiums, not only for those in Illinois, but those nationwide.
