WEEKLY HARVEST PROGRESS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) While there is no official Illinois Crop Progress Report from yesterday, due to the federal Government shutdown, here’s some numbers concerning the downstate area harvest, according to some area farmers in the ten county area of southeastern and south central Illinois. Farmers indicate the local and area soybean crop is nearly 90% harvested, with the exception of some double crop beans in wheat stubble. Meanwhile the local and area corn crop is between 50% and 60% shelled, plus about a third of the intended acreage being sown to wheat is complete. The past weekend rain was very much welcomed as area farmers and ag-related workers get a little break in harvest activities. Everyone is urged to continue thinking “safety first” as the harvesting is expected to resume later this week.
