(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session last Tuesday night. The Council : authorized 15% of the amended total project cost to the TIF Application and TIF Agreement submitted for 105 Marshall Drive up to the amount of $160,031, as recommended by the City’s Finance & Audit Committee : agreed to table the TIF Application submitted for Lot 7 in the Industrial Park : authorized the TIF Application submitted for 804 West Jourdan Street by Crawford Memorial Hospital for up to 15% of the total project to be reimbursed yearly, based on the incremental tax increase after completion of the project, as recommended by the City’s Finance & Audit Committee : discussed, but took no action on the City’s participation in an upcoming IDOT resurfacing project for Illinois Routes 33/130 : reviewed the minutes from recent committee meetings : and took no action, other than to adjourn, after a 27-minute closed session to discuss real estate and personnel : the Newton City Council’s next regular meeting is Tuesday, January 20th, 2026.
