(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois casinos generated over $169 million in adjusted gross revenue last month, a 7.6% increase over December 2024. The Rivers Casino in Des Plaines topped the state with $45.7 million in revenue last month, a 6.2% increase over the year before. At the bottom was the Casino Queen in East St. Louis with a reported 33.3% drop to $5.5 million last month.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Get Covered Illinois division of the state’s Department of Insurance has again extended the deadline for residents to enroll in health insurance thru the state marketplace. Illinois residents now have until the end of this month, January 31st, to apply and enroll in coverage. Get Covered Illinois officials noted last November that those enrolling in state-based coverage could see an average 78% increase in monthly premiums this year compared to 2025.

(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Jane Theis has announced her retirement from the state’s high court, effective later this month, January 29th. Becoming a judge in 1983, Theis has served on the Illinois Supreme Court since 2010, including a term as Chief Justice, from 2022 to 2025. In response, the Supreme Court has appointed First District Appellate Court Justice Sanjay T. Tailor to fill the seat of Justice Theis January 30th thru December 4th, 2028.

(CHICAGO) A new list ranking the “best and worst” places to retire in 2026 has Illinois ranked ninth from the bottom. According to CareScout’s survey, comparing nine data points across three categories : affordability, quality of life, and health care : Wyoming topped the list as the best to retire to, followed by New Hampshire and Vermont. New Jersey ranked as the worst place to retire to, due to high costs of living and personal income tax burdens, much like Illinois.
