NEWS FROM AROUND ILLINOIS

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act was signed into law this week out in our nation’s capitol, restoring access to whole milk in nationwide schools while supporting American dairy producers. The new law overturns USDA’s 2012 restrictions that have limited schools from providing only flavored and unflavored, low fat, fat-free, and lactose-free milk. One goal of the legislation is to help revitalize an industry that has steadily lost market share and reconnect children to the benefits and taste of milk. Most all statewide agriculture groups, such as the Illinois Farm Bureau, the Illinois Milk Producers Association, and others are in support.
