(SPRINGFIELD) A proposal for a state constitutional amendment to impose a millionaire’s tax has been referred to the Illinois House Rules Committee, but only half the revenues generated by the measure would be directed to property tax relief, while the other half will go to school districts on a per-pupil basis. If the General Assembly approved the plan, voters would have the chance to consider the proposed amendment in the November 2026 general election.
(SPRINGFIELD) The latest homeless morbidity and mortality report from the Illinois Department of Public Health shows that persons experiencing homelessness are much more likely to face emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and premature death than the public at large. Nearly 3,000 deaths involving homeless people were reported in Illinois from 2007 to 2025, with an average age of death almost 20 years younger than the general population.
(CHICAGO) The DuSable Black History Museum & Education Center in Chicago has officially received $1.9 million in funding from statewide taxpayers as a ceremony was held late last week. The funding was secured in the state budget passed by the General Assembly last year.
(CHICAGO) The newest member of the Illinois Supreme Court has been installed. Former appellate court justice Sanjay T. Tailor was sworn in by Chief Justice P. Scott Neville at a ceremony in Chicago last Friday. Tailor replaces Justice Mary Jane Theis after her retirement.
