(BRIDGEPORT) The Illinois State Police ((ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 Special Agents have arrested a Lawrence County man after his wife was fatally shot in their residence last week. It was last Thursday, January 29th, 2026, that the Bridgeport Police Department requested assistance from the Illinois State Police in the death investigation of 37 year old Omni Hooker, whom officers found dead due to a fatal gunshot wound. The victim’s husband, 28 year old Elijah W.D. Hooker was taken into custody at the scene and after the investigation over the past several days, the Lawrence County State’s Attorney’s Office yesterday charged Hooker with First Degree Murder, a Class M Felony. While Elijah Hooker remains in custody at the Lawrence County Jail, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No other information is available as the investigation is continuing.
