(OLNEY) The Olney City Council met last night in regular session. The Council : approved the payment of all bills as presented : went against the recommendation of the Plan Commission and on a three to one vote, with one abstention, approved an ordinance to rezone the property at 701 North Silver Street from R-2 (Single-Family Residence District) to C-2 (Commercial District) : discussed, but took no action on allowing a connectivity request to allow the Sheriff’s Office to use the City of Olney’s Police Radio Tower : accepted a letter of intent from IDOT regarding future improvements to Illinois Route 130, including grade work, intersection improvements, new sidewalks, repaving work, and more from the CSX overpass all the way north to the Walmart Supercenter intersection : heard an update on the snow removal work and possible assistance from IEMA : noted the Water Main Replacement project on the portion of East North Avenue, from Whittle Avenue to East Street, will begin in mid-March : approved two raffle license requests as presented : and took no other action, other than to adjourn, after a closed session to discuss real property, negotiations, and personnel : the Olney City Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting is February 23rd, 2026.
