(ALBION) It was this past Monday that First Brands Group, LLC announced the permanent closure of Champion Labs in Albion with as many as 1,000 employees being terminated, many with several years of work at the facility. The company said the closure is expected to be permanent and that all bumping rights will not apply due to the complete shutdown of the facility. Officials said the company made efforts over the past several months to avoid closing the Edwards County location, including the attempt to sell the facility, however a news release says unexpected events prevented the sale of Champion Labs to a promising bidder. It was just last month that the owners of the automotive filter manufacturer in Albion filed bankruptcy.
