(SPRINGFIELD) The average gas price in Illinois has gone up by 89 cents per gallon in the past month. According to the Triple A Motor Club, the average Illinois price for a gallon of regular unleaded was at $4.36 as of yesterday afternoon, up from $4.20 a week ago Tuesday and up from $3.47 a month ago. Yesterday’s national average for a gallon of gas was $4.14.

(SPRINGFIELD) State government officials say uninsured residents throughout Illinois can still enroll in a health insurance plan through the annual tax filing process. According to Get Covered Illinois, residents who check the health insurance box on their Illinois 1040 tax form will receive a notice outlining their projected eligibility for health coverage, including qualification for premium tax credits or Medicaid. Those filing can also ask their tax preparers for details as well.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Corrections has announced the launch of a customized educational content portal on tablets for individuals in custody. Current offerings on the Journey to Success portal include re-entry resources, law library resources, and health education videos. The IDOC began rolling out the tablets to its facilities in February 2025.

(SPRINGFIELD) A new report says 54.4%, that’s over half of all Illinois residents, drink alcohol, which is down from 60.7% eight years ago in 2018. Using data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Trace One research group cited shifting cultural norms and the expanding market for alcohol alternatives as the main reasons for the drop. Nationally, 51.1% of all adults reported using alcohol on a consistent basis.
