(SPRINGFIELD) As the clock continues to tick toward the end of the spring legislative session in Springfield, Republican lawmakers are calling on Democrats to include them in property tax relief talks. Major recent proposals from Democrats, such as the new Megaprojects Bill, have sought to address property tax issues that have drawn criticism from Republicans. Statewide residents have seen no property tax relief in recent years, instead it’s been more taxes elsewhere.
(SPRINGFIELD) The director of the Illinois Department of Employment Security says his agency has changed its processes in an effort to prevent millions of dollars in potential losses due to fraud. A financial audit of IDES for the year ending June 30th, 2024, found $266 million returned through unclaimed debit cards and other large amounts funded during the COVID-19 pandemic, however claimants were later found to be ineligible for benefits. The Legislative Audit Commission held the first of several hearings on the issue yesterday in Springfield.
(CHICAGO) Oral arguments are scheduled to be heard today in a lawsuit against the Illinois Supreme Court on behalf of former Cook County Judge James R. Brown. The Liberty Justice Center filed the federal civil rights suit back in February for what it said was Brown’s unconstitutional removal over statements the judge made while he was retired.
(CHICAGO) Tickets to the Museum at the Obama Presidential Center are scheduled to go on sale at 9:00 this morning. General admission tickets cost $23 to $30 each, or $15 to $26 for Illinois residents. The Museum is scheduled to open next month on June 19th on Chicago’s South Side.
