(NEWTON) The Jasper County School Board of Education met for its regular monthly meeting in May last night in Newton. The Board : discussed the amended budget for Fiscal Year 2026 and then set a Budget Hearing prior to the Board’s next regular monthly meeting on June 22nd at 6:20 that Monday evening : approved the payment of bills for April as presented : approved the $447,000 bid from Grunloh Construction for the Plumbing/Bathroom project at Newton Community High School by using Health Life Safety Work funds : approved the bid of $152,286 from KCH Mechanical Inc. for the Air Conditioner/Mini Splits project for the Newton Elementary School 1999 addition : approved Handbook changes for the District’s schools for the 2026-2027 school year : approved a contract with the Jasper County Education Association for the next two school years (2026-2027 & 2027-2028) : approved the First Reading of 23 changed policies and 6 unchanged policies : and in personnel – accepted retirement notices from Jenna Kinder at the Newton Elementary School at the end of the 2028-2029 school year and from Terri Wolf as a Paraprofessional at Ste. Marie Elementary School – accepted the resignations from Jasper County Junior High Life Skills Teacher Jackie Brant and from Newton Elementary School Paraprofessional Karen Kerner – agreed to hire Kaci Goforth as Newton Elementary School Counselor, Tim Bower as Summer Technology Worker, Nathan Smith as Summer Maintenance Worker, and Tony Rodriguez and Jack Kinkade as half-time Assistant Football Coaches at NCHS : the next regular monthly meeting for the Jasper County School Board will be Monday, June 22nd, 2026, preceded by the amended budget hearing.
