(OLNEY) The Olney and Greater Richland County Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its inaugural two-day event in downtown Olney, the Squirrel Sounds ‘26 Festival, set for this Friday and Saturday, May 29th and 30th. The highly anticipated event will feature eight (8) bands, over forty (40) artisan vendors, six (6) food trucks, a Kids Corner full of activities, games, inflatables, and much more, all free of charge. (NEWTON) Only a few days remain for grant applications to be submitted for the Maxine E. Spitler Foundation, which benefits youth and youth organizations in Jasper and Lawrence Counties, and also for the protection and care of animals in each county. To get the most recently revised application forms, contact the Weber and Company, Inc. Office in Newton, at 604 West Jourdan Street, by calling at 618-783-3447. While the submission deadline of May 31st, 2026, falls this year on a Sunday, all completed forms must be dropped off at the Weber and Company Office by this Friday, May 29th, 2026, since the office is closed on weekends. Completed application forms can also be returned by mail, but they must be postmarked by May 31st, 2026.
(OLNEY) The Richland County Homemakers Education Association has another free online seminar coming up two weeks from today, on Tuesday, June 9th, and it’s all open to the public and HEA membership is not required to attend. Beginning that afternoon at 2:00, at the Richland County Extension Office Meeting room in Olney, the program is entitled “Become a Dementia Friend.” Attendees will become better familiar with the simple things one can do to provide support and practical action to help someone living with dementia in our community. Although pre-registration is not required to attend the webinar in person, folks can also register and view the webinar whenever convenient by logging in to go.illinois.edu/2026HCElessions.
