REGULAR BI-MONTHLY MEETING LAST NIGHT

(OLNEY) The Olney City Council met last night in regular session. The Council : approved the payment of all bills, as presented : accepted the $31,769 quote to buy seventeen (17) portable radios for Olney’s emergency personnel that are compatible to the county-wide communication and radio system : approved the $24,950 quote to repair the control panel and lift station in Doenges Estates : accepted the $15,315 quote to repair the lake switch control and water plant pumphouse communication system : approved the $92,498 bid to purchase a skid steer with attachments, and agreed to buy a related trailer, all for the City’s Park Department : agreed to amend the FY 26 budget to repair the Band Shell roof in the Olney City Park worth $4,450 : approved three ordinances to amend the City of Olney’s Municipal Code for fee increases, many of which have not been raised for many years – Title 5 for Business Licenses & Regulations for contractors & others – Title 8 for Health & Safety for false alarm responses & more – and Title 17 for Zoning : with the recent closure of a Class D Club, agreed to lower the number of liquor licenses for Class D from five (5) to four (4) : agreed to donate the City’s Squirrel Costume to the Olney & Greater Richland County Chamber of Commerce for increased usage : approved one raffle license, as requested : and heard an update on the various infrastructure improvement projects – the Elliott Street Bridge work should be completed in two weeks – the East Street Bridge work should be completed in three weeks – the strorm sewer work is continuing on East Scott Street – the water main project on East North Avenue is continuing and on schedule – and the Main Street Improvement project is continuing at the east edge of Olney near the Route 50 intersection : also noted the opening of the Musgrove Aquatic Center and the Splash Pad were a success this past weekend : the Council took no action, other than to adjourn, after an executive session to discuss real property and personnel : the Olney City Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be June 8th, 2026.
