NEWTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING RECAP (03/21/2024)

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met earlier this week on Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of all bills, including $197,379 in pre-paids and $177,042 in other payable accounts : approved the $6,146 bid to purchase a 1990 dump truck : approved three demolition reimbursement applications – $7,500 for 702 Foster Street, $7,500 for 504 Curtis Street, and $15,000 for 503 Barton Street : on a 3 to 2 vote, approved the $634,286 bid from Kieffer Brothers Construction for the South Van Buren Water Main Replacement project : on a 3-2 vote, approved the dumpster reimbursement application for 907 West Washington Street worth $2,500 : on a 4 to 1 vote, agreed to seek bids for a new bucket truck for the city’s electric department : agreed to pay the cost of sending a Newton City Police Officer to a Lead Homicide Investigator Training in Urbana in April : approved the Special Event Application for the Strong Girls/Strong Boys Fun Run set for May 17th in Newton : and after a 26-minute closed session, agreed to authorize representation for union negotiations : the Newton City Council’s next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday night, April 2nd, 2024.
