WABASH CO-OP EXPANDING BROADBAND WITH GRANT

(LOUISVILLE) Wabash Communications CO-OP has announced that it has been awarded a $23,197,592 grant through the Connect Illinois Program to expand broadband access in underserved rural areas. The funds will enable Wabash to embark on four transformative projects, modernizing connectivity in different regions across South Central Illinois. The first project will encompass the towns of Kinmundy, Herrick, and St. Peter, enhancing the connectivity there in Marion, Fayette, and Shelby Counties. The second project will involve the area just east of Fairfield, in Wayne County. The third project will include a small part of west Richland County, the east part of Clay County, and the area serving Lake Centralia in Marion County. And the fourth project will cover a large section of southwest Wayne County. Construction for these projects is slated to commence in the late third quarter of 2024, with various other Wabash Communications CO-OP projects to follow. Overall, this initiative will connect approximately 1,200 households, businesses, farms, and community anchor institutions to high-speed broadband. For more, go to the www.wabash.net website.
