WANTED OLNEY MAN IN CUSTODY AFTER HOURS OF BARRICADED STAND OFF

(OLNEY) A wanted man who was hiding within the residence at 318 West Butler Street in Olney was finally taken into custody in the overnight hours without incident. The Olney Police Department reports that it first received information that 47 year old George T. Grove was possibly at the residence and since Grove had an outstanding warrant for Escape and was known to be Armed and Dangerous, the Olney Police Department attempted to make contact with Grove at approximately 3:46 Sunday afternoon. As the situation quickly turned into a barricaded event, the area around the residence was secured and assistance was requested and received from several agencies, including the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the ILEAS SWAT Team, the Illinois State Police Crisis Negotiations Team, and other regional police and sheriff’s departments. After several hours of contact and after exhausting all options, the SWAT Team made entry into the house and Grove was taken into custody without incident. No other details are available at this time and all other case information will be released by the Richland County State’s Attorney’s Office in Olney.
