CDL TEST CHANGES NOW IN EFFECT

(SPRINGFIELD) For farmers and other ag-related workers that don’t know it yet, new changes to the Illinois commerical driver’s license (CDL) test are now in effect. Whether drivers are obtaining their CDL or non-CDL with a J51 restriction, there will no longer be a parallel parking requirement, and the basic control skills (driving) test will include just four steps, including (1) forward stop, (2) straight line backing, (3) forward offset tracking, and (4) reverse offset backing. Plus, the pre-trip testing will return to the rules from before 2015. With the new update, drivers can use a checklist during pre-trip inspection. For more, visit the Secretary of State’s website at ilsos.gov to access the updated CDL section, plus CDL applicants can schedule pre-trip, skills, and on-road exams on the website as well.
