ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (10/08/2024)

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has announced that Sysmex America, Inc., a subsidiary of a Japanese company, will expand its operations in the Land of Lincoln. The company, which manufactures medical diagnostic equipment, will expand its northeastern Illinois facilities in Lake County. New investments will create 110 new full-time jobs and retain nearly 550 existing jobs. Meanwhile, Governor J.B. Pritzker and some statewide business leaders and other politicians continue their trade mission trip in Japan, which is significant to maintaining the U.S.-Japanese alliance.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Public Health is reminding everyone that along with fall, October brings that start of the traditional respiratory virus season. Officials are urging folks around the state to use tools like vaccines that can safequard against illnesses that typically surge during the fall and winter, including COVID-19, the flu, and RSV. Public health leaders also stress that one of the best ways to reduce transmission of viruses is to stay at home when symptoms begin in order to reduce the transmission to others.

(SPRINGFIELD) This is Fire Prevention Week in Illinois and the State Department of Children & Family Services is promoting this year’s campaign by reminding the public about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home. In October 2019, the DCFS launched a statewide program to provide free smoke alarms to families served by the department. So far to date, the DCFS has distributed 6,135 smoke alarms to families across Illinois, including over 1,300 this year, an increase of over 470 from the same time last year.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding the public of the deer hunting seasons this fall. While the archery deer hunting season began a week ago today and runs through mid-January 2025, with the exception of the firearm seasons in November and December, the 2024 Youth Firearm Deer Season is this Saturday, Sunday, & next Monday.
