(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 3.7 days suitable for fieldwork last week on average around the state. Illinois’ average temperature was 54.6 degrees last week, 10.2 degrees above normal. The state’s precipitation averaged 3.04 inches last week, 2.30 inches above normal. As of Monday, nearly all the statewide corn & soybean harvesting is complete, with the winter wheat planted at 96% (compared to the 5-year average of 93%). The winter wheat condition is rated 3 % poor to very poor, 23% fair, 70% good, and 45 excellent. Regional farmers report only a few local acres of corn remain for harvesting with other work taking place. Let’s remember “safety first” out there.
