MONDAY WEATHER DISCUSSION (07/28/2025)

(OLNEY/NEWTON) While a Heat Advisory is in effect for the northern half of our listening area today through tonight, a Heat Warning is in effect for the southern half today through tomorrow. It’s more near record heat and humidity in place, at least for two more days as an approaching cold front will give us a little relief with rain chances on Wednesday, but more relief rain and cooler air moving in by Thursday night. Then our downstate weather is less humid and more pleasant for Friday and the weekend ahead. Stay tuned for weather updates and always monitor a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for more forecast details.

(NEWTON/OLNEY) There were more spotty showers and isolated thunderstorms this past weekend throughout our downstate area. While some of the activity occurred Saturday, the bulk of the rainy & stormy weather hit yesterday through last night. The National Weather Service issued only one weather statement over the weekend, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Crawford County at around 3:30 Sunday afternoon. While there were heavy amounts of rain that fell in a matter of minutes in some spots, such as 2.5 and 3.5 inches in areas of northwestern Richland County & portions of Clay, Jasper, Cumberland, Crawford, and Clark counties, a few reports were received for some hail, wind gusts between 30 and 40 miles-per-hour, and dangerous lightning. However, not a lot of damage and no injuries.
