(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session this past Tuesday night. The Council : approved the $231,224 bid from J.B. Esker & Sons for the Pickleball Courts to be constructed at Peterson Park : then approved a change order to reduce the bid contract amount for the Pickleball Courts by $111,529, making the new contract amount at $119,696 : agreed to table action to purchase a used backhoe and used tractor for the Water, Street, and Wastewater Departments : approved a TIF application submitted for 103 South Jackson Street for 50% of the total project cost in the amount of $5,006 as recommended by the City Finance & Audit Committee : authorized the City Attorney to proceed with necessary steps to seek bids on City owned property in the Industrial Park : approved a Letter of Agreement between the City of Newton and the Policeman’s Benevolent & Protective Association Labor Committee to modify the Police Union Contract concerning Holiday Pay, which took affect this past Tuesday, August 5th : and noted that with local schools getting back in session next week, on Tuesday, August 12th, everyone should be alert to the children going to and from the schools : the next regular meeting for the Newton City Council is August 19th.
