(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session this past Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of all bills as presented – $473,929 in pre-paids and $143,551 for other accounts payable : approved the $47,346 purchase of a used 2019 New Holland Tractor to be split between the Street & Wastewater Departments : approved the $38,365 purchase of a used 2020 New Holland Backhoe to be split between the Water & Wastewater Departments : approved the $7,900 purchase of a 2025 Stump Grinder with Adapter for the Electric Department : agreed to authorize both the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year Audit & TIF Fiscal Year Audit : agreed to remove the 1 percent administrative fee given to the Jasper County Economic Development received from approved TIF applications : agreed to authorize the City Attorney to proceed with legal action regarding structure removal in the alley between 103 and 105 East Morgan Street : held a 40-minute executive session to discuss personnel, litigation, & closed session minutes : the Newton City Council’s next regular meeting is September 2nd, 2025.
