FALL FERTILIZER COSTS ARE MIXED SO FAR

(CHAMPAIGN) Fertilizer costs continue to challenge farmers and their crop budgets in Illinois. Most all fertilizer companies agree that with phosphate and nitrogen prices going up heading into the fall application season, a big run for anhydrous ammonia is expected this fall. Although the demand for phosphate is expected to be down substantially this fall, given the high cost and low commodity prices, the news for potash is more uplifting with a stable supply and less dramatic pricing. Officials say farmers need to continue ongoing conversations with fertilizer suppliers as the risk of demand and cost are shared.
