(NEWTON/EFFINGHAM) In recognition of February being National Canned Food Month, HSHS Home Care is teaming up with Dan Hecht Chevrolet Toyota and Roy Schmidt Honda in Effingham to “Cram the Car” with nonperishable food items, hygiene products, and cash donations for the Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry. With donations for the annual event accepted through the rest of February, the HSHS Home Care staff will cram their cars on Saturday, March 1st, with all the donated items and cash, and then deliver it all to the food pantry in Effingham, which serves those in the regional counties of Jasper, Crawford, Clark, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, and Shelby. Suggested items to donate include canned fruit, low-salt canned vegetables, boxed meals, pancake mix & syrup, jelly, cereal, granola, large boxes of oatmeal, pasta sauce, soap, shampoo, feminine products, and razors. While items can be dropped off at the two car dealerships, items and the monetary donations can be dropped off at the HSHS Home Care Office in St. Anthony’s Health Center at 900 West Temple Avenue in Effingham during regular office hours, weekdays from 8:00 to 4:30.
