(SPRINGFIELD) Though Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s full affordable housing initiative did not pass through the General Assembly this session, approximately $250 million was included in the state’s 2027 budget to support portions of the plan. Officials cited opposition from municipal leaders, who argued the proposal would allow the state to overstep local authority. Lawmakers and the governor have also said additional work will continue over the summer to advance affordable housing efforts across Illinois.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Citizens Utility Board says it has identified at least $54 million in potential overcharges within Illinois American Water’s proposed $142.4 million rate increase. In its request to the Illinois Commerce Commission earlier this year, the utility estimated the average residential customer would see a monthly increase of about $14, while typical wastewater customers would pay roughly $28 more per month.
