(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois lawmakers have proposed new measures in Springfield to regulate the use of artificial intelligence. House Bill 0035 was filed last week to create the Artificial Intelligence Systems Use in Health Insurance Act, to prohibit insurance companies from using AI alone to deny, reduce, or terminate coverage plans. A companion bill was then filed in the State Senate late last week. A recent State Task Force report calls for measures to support workers, safeguard civil rights, and foster sustainable IA development.

(CHICAGO) An Illinois conservation group says hundreds of ducks that typically spend winters in the Great Lakes Region have been found sick or dead of suspected avian flu. The Chicago Bird Collision Monitors group said Sunday that bird flu is posing a serious threat to the bird life in the Upper Midwestern Region this winter. The group says it is receiving reports of a large number of sick or dead ducks being found around Lake Michigan.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Public Health is announcing a month-long focus on heart health during American Heart Month in February. The annual observance serves as a reminder to the public about the dangers of cardiovascular disease and the resources that are available to help people maintain a healthy heart every day of the year.

(SPRINGFEILD) This is National Burn Awareness Week and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall is raising awareness about preventing burn injuries and fires in the home. This year’s theme, “Burn Prevention Starts Where You Live,” highlights practical steps to reduce burn hazards in kitchens, bathrooms, sleeping areas, and storage spaces. The American Burn Association reports each year there’s an estimated one person per 10,000 people in the United States requiring inpatient hospitalization at a burn center facility.
