(SPRINGFIELD) A multi-state tomato recall has been issued across the U.S. over potential salmonella contaimination. The tomatoes include four-count Vine Ripe tomatoes, which were sold in 11 states, including Illinois, and all sold by Gordon Food Service stores. So far no illnesses have been reported. Check the FDA’s website online for more information.
(SPRINGFIELD) Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is building a 1.2 million square-foot supplier park in Normal, that the company says will create nearly 100 new jobs. The park will allow the company to become more involved in the production of component parts for its R1 and R2 models, plus allow the company to guide its own supply chain, therefore keeping everything consistent throughout Rivian’s manufacturing process at one location.
(EVANSTON) U.S. Representative Jan Schakowski, who has served the 9th Congressional District in Illinois since 1999, announced yesterday that she will not seek re-election to a 15th term next year. The 80 year old’s announcement is expected to kick off a crowded Democratic primary for the upstate seat, which stretches from Evanston, northwestward thru Chicago to Lakewood. The primary election is less than a year away, March 16th, 2026.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall is raising awareness about the seriousness of the crime of arson during this 30th annual Arson Awareness Week. The National Fire Protection Association reports municipal fire departments in America responded to an estimated annual average of over 52,000 intentionally set structure fires in the five year period from 2014 to 2018. Officials said to report suspicious activity near houses or other buildings, folks should contact their local law enforcement agencies.
