ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (05/08/2025)

(SPRINGFIELD) Justice David K. Overstreet, of the Illinois Supreme Court, administered the attorney’s oath to eleven (11) new lawyers yesterday in Mt. Vernon, in the downstate Fifth Judicial District, which includes the southernmost 48 counties in Illinois. Meanwhile, bar admission ceremonies for 271 other new lawyers also took place yesterday in the other four judicial districts with the other locations in Springfield, Ottawa, Elgin, and Chicago.

(SPRINGFIELD) Ameren Illinois and other downstate area electric utilities are urging their customers to be careful when using Mylar balloons while at outdoor parties & celebrations. These types of balloons, while very festive, can cause power outages and safety issues when they come into contact with electric power lines and/or equipment. Last year alone, there were hundreds of balloon-related outages nationwide, in fact Ameren alone has responded to more than 170 balloon-related outages since 2021. (DU QUOIN) The Du Quoin State Fair has announced that Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, David Lee Roth, will take the Grandstand stage on Saturday, August 23rd, with ticket sale to begin tomorrow morning at 10:00 at ticketmaster.com. Other scheduled performers at Illinois’ second state fair includes Tesla, Jake Owen, and Gabby Barrett. The Du Quoin State Fair will run August 22nd thru September 1st.
