(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Public Health says the state has one reported case of listeria related to chicken fettucine alfredo packages sold at Walmart and Kroger. The USDA has announced the FreshRealm Company has recalled its Marketside and Home Chef products linked to the listeria outbreak. Three deaths and one fetal loss were reported in connection with the outbreak, plus at least 17 people have been sickened as well.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Chamber of Commerce has taken note of the state’s unresolved legislative issues in its annual End of Session Report. The 33-page document outlines 2025 legislative activity and the chamber’s engagement in seven core areas, including energy, employment, environment, healthcare, infrastructure, taxes, & technology. State Chamber officials say the $55.2 billion budget, passed by the General Assembly nearly three weeks ago and signed into law by the Governor this week, left critical issues unresolved.
(CHICAGO) The owner of a Chicago laboratory has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for his role in a fraudulent COVID-19 testing scheme. A judge also ordered 46 year old Zishan Alvi to pay more than $14 million in restitution and forfeit $8 million in cash, plus three vehicles. Prosecutors say the northern Illinois man submitted tens of thousands of claims to the federal government for COVID-19 tests that were not performed as billed.
(SPRINGFIELD) Trooper Clay Carns will be honored today in Springfield as his name will be affixed permanently on the Illinois State Police Memorial Park Wall. It was last December, just two days before Christmas, that the 35 year old State Trooper was outside his squad car removing debris from I-55, southwest of Joliet, when he was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. The Memorial Wall is located just north of the Illinois State Police headquarters in the State Capitol. Carns is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents.
