ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (07/04/2024)

(EVANSTON) A lawsuit is accusing Northwestern University’s Law School of discriminating against white men. The federal complaint was filed by the “Faculty, Alumni, & Students Opposed to Racial Preferences” group. The suit says the school violated anti-discrimination laws by hiring women and people of color over white men with more qualified credentials.

(SPRINGFIELD) With the farmers market season now in full swing, older adults may be able to get help buying fresh, local produce. The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, administered jointly by the Illinois Department on Aging and the Illinois Department of Human Services, offers income-eligible older adults access to up to $50 worth of locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey from certified farmers. Eligible participants must be at least 60 years old and have a household income at or below 185% of the federal proverty level. More information is available on the ilaging.illinois.gov website.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Fair has announced that rising star and crossover artist Shaboozey will headline the final Grandstand show of this year’s Illinois State Fair on Sunday, August 18th. Tickets to see the multi-faceted artist with his alternative country and hip-hop music will go on sale this Saturday morning at 10:00 on ticketmaster.com. The 2024 Illinois State Fair runs August 8th through August 18th in Springfield.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Police and hundreds of local law enforcement agencies are out in extra force today and rest of the weekend looking for those driving impaired or not observing the rules of the road. With various roadside safety checks, saturation patrols, and more, the authorities are looking for those driving impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, plus those speeding, not wearing seat belts, and those that are texting while driving.
