INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO FIRE AT WABASH VALLEY PRODUCE FARM

(FARINA) The investigation will continue today into a fire last night that destroyed several buildings at the Wabash Valley Produce Chicken Farm, near State Route 37 between Farina and Kinmundy. Authorities say no one was at work when the fire broke out a shortly before 7:00 Wednesday night. Tanker Fire Trucks from 27 different fire departments and several private companies hauled water to the site, where the blaze was finally extinguished early this morning. It’s estimated the free range chicken facility housed close to 1.2 million birds. Illinois Route 37 was closed to all traffic until just before 4:00 this morning. There were no injuries. Authorities indicate the State Fire Marshall’s Office will be on the scene today.
