(ALBION) The investigation is continuing into an oilfield explosion that occurred around 2:30 this past Friday afternoon in Edwards County, located at an oil-well location just off of State Route 130, between Albion and Grayville. Authorities indicate three men working at the scene of the explosion were taken to a Grayville location and then airlifted to regional hospitals with serious injuries, mostly burns. Firemen extinguished the flames at the well site in about 30 minutes, although Route 130 was closed for 2 to 3 hours. The explosion is believed to have occurred due to a pocket of gas igniting as the oilfield pulling unit was pulling pipe out of the oil-well. No other details on those injured are available at this time.
