JASPER COUNTY BOARD MEETING RECAP (02/16/2024)

(NEWTON) The Jasper County Board had its regular monthly meeting for February last night in Newton. The Board : approved the payment of all January bills worth $354,537 : noted that work is continuing on the County of Jasper / City of Newton website : reviewed the County Highway Department’s plan to chip and seal over 28 miles of roads in Jasper County this summer, plus roads planned for improvement work includes the Bogota Road, Rose Hill East Road, and the Run Around Road : noted that the Chamber’s Hometown Hero Award for February 2024 was presented to Al Thompson of Newton : discussed the ITEP Grant which could bring upgrades to street lighting and sidewalks on county property around the Jasper County Courthouse Square : noted the Jasper County Economic Development, Inc. will host a “Meet-Greet-& Learn” event next Wednesday, February 21st, at 6:00, at the Newton KC Hall : and took action, other than to adjourn, after a 44 minute closed session : the next regular monthly meeting for the Board will be March 21st.
