(NEWTON) The City of Newton’s Street Department will begin vacuuming leaves along the city streets a week from next Monday, November 3rd, running each weekday thereafter, Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 until 3:00 each day, until the end of November or into the first week of December, if needed. The leaves must be on the roadside of the ditch, near the street or at the edge of the street, plus leaves should not be located on the street so as not to interfere with traffic. Only leaves will be vacuumed, no twigs or limbs. To have leaves vacuumed in Newton, call the City Hall between 7:00 and 4:00 at 783-8451 or after 4:00 call the Street Department at 783-8511 and leave a message with the home address and phone number. Also, residents are reminded the City of Newton Yard Waste facility is open every Saturday morning in November from 8:00 to 12:00 for grass, leaves, small limbs, and other yard or garden waste, however no paper products, root wads, and no commercial dumping.
